What's a Smart Key?

Smart car keys, also known as proximity keys, are advanced automotive keys that allow drivers to unlock, start, and secure their vehicles without physically inserting a key into the ignition or door locks. These keys use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology or Bluetooth communication to interact with the vehicle’s onboard system.

How Smart Keys Work

  • When the driver approaches the vehicle, the smart key automatically communicates with the car’s sensors.

  • The car detects the key’s unique encrypted signal, allowing keyless entry when the door handle is touched.

  • Once inside, the driver can start the engine using a push-button ignition, as long as the key is inside the vehicle.

  • Some smart keys also allow remote start, trunk access, and personalized vehicle settings.
